Pilot spots drone-like object at IGI Airport
The airport sources said that no flight operations were disturbed due to this incident.
New Delhi: A private airliner’s pilot who was flying a Delhi-bound flight from Singapore spotted a drone like object when he was approaching the runway No. 29 of Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport on late Saturday night. However, the airport sources said that no flight operations were disturbed due to this incident.
Jet Airways pilot Sandeep Mehta in an FIR, said “I was flying flight 9W-017 from Singapore to New Delhi on Saturday night and when it headed to runway No. 29, I noticed a drone like object. The aircraft was far from the said object. I saw it crossing over the runway at 300 to 400 feet above the ground. The glowing object appeared to us be a drone and I immediately informed air traffic controller (ATC).”
A police officer said, “The ATC received information regarding sighting of the object. After receiving the complaint, teams of the southwest district police and the IGI police inspected various areas near the airport where the flying object was reportedly sighted.”
“The incident is not only a source of nuisance, but may have also endangered the safety and security of the aircraft’s passengers and crew. A case has been filed against unknown persons,” he added. Earlier on August 21, flights at IGI Airport were halted twice after pilots of two airlines spotted a drone-like object in the area even as security agencies went into a tizzy.
