Sweeper dupes 25 of Rs 11 lakh
Accused claimed to be a close aide of NDMC chairman.
New Delhi: A sweeper on contract in New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has been accused of duping over 25 people to the tune of Rs 11 lakh.
The accused, on the pretext of dropping names and claiming to be a close aide of the NDMC chairman, cheated innocent people.
The Bada Hindu Rao Hospital police has registered a case of cheating against the accused identified as Sanjay Pihal. He used to dupe people by promising them permanent job in NDMC in the 4th class cateogory.
The cheating case came to light when a complainant, identified as Mangal Singh, a resident of Sadar Bazar, approache d the police and lodged a cheating and forgery complaint. The police said that the complainant knew Sanjay and used to frequent their house.
In his complaint, he stated that Sanjay claimed that he is in a very good position in NDMC and said that he is a close aide of the chairman. He further offered Mangal that if he wants a job, he can tell him and he would get him a 4th class cateogory job in NDMC. But, for security, Mangal has to deposit a token amount of Rs 50,000. Already in the trap, Mangal refered over 22 people to Sanjay from whom he allegedly took Rs 50,000 each and promised them a permanent job.
However, all dreams came crashing down when time passed and there was no response from Sanjay. When the job aspirants quizzed Mangal about the same and reprimanded him to return the money, which amounte to Rs 11 lakh, Mangal approached Sanjay and asked him about the progress towhich the latter evaded and said he will get in touch later.
After various vain attempts, when Sanjay didn’t respond to Mangal, he confronted him. “Sanjay rather being apologetic started to threaten me. When I enquired about him, I was shocked to learn that he was working as a sweeper on contract basis and fled with the hard earned money of all the people,” said Mangal.
He then approached the police and registered a case of cheating against Sanjay. The police has taken up the case and have launched a man hunt to nab Sanjay.
The police suspect that the number of people cheated at the hands of Sanjay could rise and the cops can smell a scam behind it. A case has been registered in this connection.
