On Friday, dalit leader and independent MLA from Gujarat, Jignesh Mevani, too alleged that he has received death threats from Pujari.
New Delhi: JNU student leader Umar Khalid has filed a complaint with the Delhi police, alleging he has received death threats from a man who identified himself as the fugitive gangster Ravi Pujari, a senior official said on Saturday.
On Friday, dalit leader and independent MLA from Gujarat, Jignesh Mevani, too alleged that he has received death threats from Pujari.
Mr Khalid approached the police with a complaint on Friday about the threats and a case was registered, the official said, adding that the police is investigating the matter.
Mr Mevani’s close associate, Kaushik Parmar, who was using the former’s phone, filed a FIR at the Vadgam police station.
“I received a call from an unknown number, on Wednesday afternoon, from a person who identified himself as Ravi Pujari from Australia. He asked me to let Mevani talk to him. But the phone was, all of a sudden, disconnected,” Mr Parmar told the police.
He reportedly called the number, but the calls kept disconnecting.
“Later, I received a call from an unknown local number. This time, the person identified himself as Rajveer Mishra,” Mr Parmar said, adding, “This person began abusing Mevani and threatened to shoot him.”
Mr Khalid tweeted that he has asked for police protection. “Filed a complaint with @DelhiPolice regarding Ravi Pujari’s death threat to Jignesh and me. He said that I am on his HIT LIST! I have asked for police protection, given the fact that this is the same person who had previously also issued similar threats of killing me in Feb 2016 (sic),” he tweeted.
