Rs 1 crore in cash seized from BMW, Delhi police beep up vigil
Police have intensified patrolling in several major as well as other intersections across the national capital.
New Delhi: Ahead of the general elections of 2019, the Delhi police is keeping a strict vigil on security and illicit flow of money and liquor. In two separate incidents, the police has seized Rs 1crore from a BMW in Vasant Vihar, and arrested a bootlegger along with huge quantity of illicit liquor in Jahangirpuri area.
The Lok Sabha polls, conducted in seven phases, will begin on Thursday (April 11) and continue till May 19. Delhi will vote on May 12 and the overall results will be declared on May 23.
Police have intensified patrolling in several major as well as other intersections across the national capital. On Tuesday night, the police seized Rs 1crore in cash from a BMW car in South-West Delhi’s Vasant Vihar area.
“A police team was deputed at a picket near a church on Poorvi Marg in Vasant Vihar area on Tuesday night to check vehicles carrying cash and other prohibited articles in view of the forthcoming elections,” said Devendra Arya, DCP, South-West district.
“During checking, a BMW car was stopped and while frisking through the car, the cash amounting to Rs 1crore was found inside the car,” said the DCP. “Other agencies including the income tax department have been informed about the seizure,” the DCP added.
In a separate incident in North-West Delhi’s Jahangiruuri area on Tuesday night, highway motorcycles patrolling in the area intercepted a car going towards Kashmere Gate from Mukarba Chowk packed with cartoons.
DCP (North-West) Vijayanta Arya said that out of suspicion the police stopped the vehicle but the driver tried to flee. However he was nabbed and was identified as Paramjeet (28), a native of Rohtak, Haryana.
On checking the vehicle, 32 cartons, each carton containing 50 quarter bottles, were recovered. The seized liquor were meant “For sale in Haryana only”.
