Delhi cop allegedly under depression shoots self with service pistol
Sources said the police officer was suffering from depression as he had a lot of pending files to clear.
New Delhi: A Delhi Police inspector, in his 40s, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service pistol in the Chittaranjan Park police station in southeast Delhi Wednesday evening.
Police did not find any suicide note from the spot.
Kaushal Ganguly was posted in the District Investigation Unit of southeast district. His office was on the first floor of the police station.
"He had come to the office despite it being a gazetted holiday today and got his service pistol issued around 5:50 PM and then went to his office and shot himself in the head around 6 PM," police said.
"He got his service pistol issued saying he is deployed on duty for Shab-e-Barat arrangements tomorrow," said DCP Romil Baaniya.
The gunshot sound alerted everyone in the police station and police personnel rushed to his room and saw him lying in a pool of blood.
He was rushed to Max Hospital in Saket where doctors declared him brought dead.
Sources said the police officer was suffering from depression as he had a lot of pending files to clear and was allegedly under pressure from his seniors.
