India, Bangladesh fake currency module exposed
FICNs worth Rs 8 lakh recovered, one arrested.
New Delhi: In a major haul, a special cell team has busted an Indo-Bangla border module involved in circulating Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICNs) that is circulated across the country through the porous Indo-Bangladesh border.
The police said that they also busted Uttar Pradesh-based module at Kairana. The special cell sleuths recovered Rs 8 lakhs of fake currency notes in Rs 2,000 denomination. Kamil (45), the accused, who hails from Shamli in UP, too landed in police net.
According to a senior police officer, Inspector Rahul Kumar Singh was working to bust the module of one Martuz, a Malda resident. He operated the module and circulated FICN to different parts of country, including Delhi, through his associates.
The police deployed its sources to different parts of Delhi and West Bengal. Technical surveillance was also mounted to develop the information about the module.
On May 10, the police received a tip off that accused Kamil would be meeting one of his associates near Seelampur Metro Station Bus Stop, G.T,Road, Delhi to deliver the consignment of FICN. He had received a consignment of FICNs from one Martuz of Malda.
The police laid a trap near Seelampur Metro Station Bus Stop and spotted Kamil carrying a black-coloured shoulder bag waiting under the foot over bridge.
He waited for sometime and when no one turned up, he started to move but found himself surrounded by the police team which divested him of his bag and arrested him.
A search of his bag led to recovery of a smaller bag wrapped in mosquito net. The smaller bag contained four wads of fake Rs 2,000 currency notes, amounting to Rs 8 lakh, wrapped in two packets of polythene. The police took the notes into their possession.,
During interrogation, Kamil said he got the FICNs from one Martuz of Malda, for delivery to one of his associates in Kailash Nagar. The accused had procured the consignment two days ago and had come from Malda to deliver the same to his associate. He said he was arrested while recovering FICNs woerth Rs 4 lakh in Delhi in 2013 and that he was convicted for the same.
