New Delhi: Two men were killed and one grievously injured when a speeding Sports Utility Vehicle hit a scooty and a pedestrian in Pashchim Vihar on Wednesday. A CCTV footage that had captured the entire episode surfaced on Thursday.

Police said the incident was reported by one of the eyewitnesses who informed the cops about the incident. Soon after a team was rushed to the spot and the injured men were admitted to a nearby private hospital. One of them identified as Arvind (50) was declared dead on arrival while another identified as Durgesh (31) was admitted to a hospital where he succumbed due to excessive bleeding.

As per the police, the SUV was heading from Punjabi Bagh to Peeragahi side when the driver, realising he was driving next to a divider, suddenly took a sharp left turn. The speeding SUV hit a scooty whose driver got dragged along, while the one riding pillion, too was flung in the air for several meters and landed with his head hitting the road divider and died. The driver lost his balance and fell into a pit after the SUV hit the scooty.

None of the locals, however, noticed the SUV's driver for a few moments as all of them rushed to help the victims. Taking this as an opportunity, he fled the spot, leaving his car there. Locals assumed that he was still struggling to get out of his car and rushed to catch hold of him, but he was nowhere to be seen. His identification card was, however, found in the car which led the Delhi police to his residence and they arrested him.

DCP (outer), MN Tiwari, said the accused, identified as Saurabh Jain, was later arrested. He was a resident of Ashok Vihar. Meanwhile, police has said the SUV was seized and a case under Sections279, 337 and 304 (A) of the IPC were registered at the Paschim Vihar police station. Investigation is on.
