AIIMS students, lawyers scuffle: Cross FIRs filed
he MBBS students alleged that the lawyers gained unauthorised' entry into the playground area of the restricted hostel premises
New Delhi: The basketball court at AIIMS campus turned into a fighting ring after MBBS students and a group of lawyers indulged into a scuffle.
Cross FIRs have been lodged following the scuffle over playing in the premises, the police said on Tuesday, adding that the incident took place on October 2.
In their complaint, the MBBS students alleged that the lawyers gained “unauthorised” entry into the playground area of the restricted hostel premises and forced the students playing there to vacate the ground for them. This resulted in a confrontation between the AIIMS students and the lawyers, the police said.
The police said nine MBBS students were injured in the scuffle. A lawyer, in his complaint, alleged that he along with his four friends were abused and thrashed by the MBBS students with iron-rods when they tried to play in the basketball area in the AIIMS campus.
The lawyer said he somehow managed to escape from there and entered the dental area and urged the guards present there to call up the police. However, they did not cooperate, he alleged.
The lawyer then allegedly locked himself in one of the cabins there and requested a guard there to get his mobile phone, which fell down while he was trying to escape, the police said.
The lawyer also alleged that the security guard who had come to check on them was also brutally injured by the accused students.
He alleged that some of the students robbed him of his gold chain and took away all his essential cards and other valuables.
One of the lawyers claimed that the doctors damaged his car and wrote abusive language on the vehicle with AIIMS sign.
