Kiosks to help public access key services

New Delhi: Enhancing digital services in Lutyens’ Zone, the New Delhi Municipal Council is planning to set up five PODs (Point of Delivery) systems. POD is a technology driven remote information centre, which will have the facility of video-based interaction for citizens. According to a senior official of the council, the main objective is to bring governance at the citizen’s doorsteps in line with the Union government’s ‘Digital India’ campaign. “In these PODs, which will offer a range of services, a person can access and apply for various applications like passport, birth and death registration, tourism, DTC and railway tickets among other government services” he said. The civic body is going to float tenders regarding this soon. As per initial plans, PODs will be installed in five places across the jurisdiction of the New Delhi Municipal Council. The NDMC is currently in the process to identify five places with huge footfall in the first phase. “If this experiment is successful then more PODs will be developed,” the officer added.
The size of the information kisosk would be eight feet in width and seven in length. Outer façade of the cabin will be used for revenue generation from the advertisements.
