New Delhi: Continuing their probe into the alleged attempt to murder and robbery case of an elderly woman at Sarita Vihar on January 25, a special team nabbed two habitual offenders from Mumbai.

According to sources, a special team from Sarita Vihar police station, based on credible information and the information given by the victim Subha Mukherjee (74), the team traced Naeem Khan and Subhash in Mumbai where they were hiding. Preliminary probe reveals that Naeem had earlier worked at Ms Mukherjee’s house for a few weeks. He used to look after the daily chores and took her pet dog out for walk. It was then that Naeem learnt about the gold jewellery worth several lakhs kept in their locker and decided to loot the booty.

Naeem and Subhash have past criminal records and have been involved in dozens of robbery and snatching cases.

The duo have over six cases of robbery and snatching in not only Delhi and the NCR region, but in other cities as well. The police are now questioning the two habitual offenders in this connection.

On Janaury 25, the 74-year-old woman, who was alone in her Sarita Vihar house, was brutally attacked, gagged and robbed by Naeem and Subhash who visited her on the pretext of seeing her dog. They had attempted to kill Ms Mukherjee by slashing her throat and later ran away with the gold ornaments worth several lakhs.

The incident had come to light when her daughter, who is said to be an employee of FICCI, was informed, following which she returned home and took her mother to the Apollo Hospital.

During the probe it came to light that the victim had not checked Naeem’s background before hiring him. The Sarita Vihar police are probing in this connection and it is likely that more cases of robbery and theft will come to light with the arrest of the two.
