Respite temporary, heat to rise during weekend

New Delhi: Following a brief respite from sweltering conditions, heat will begin to build in the national capital in the weekend as winds from the desert state of Rajasthan will be blowing towards Delhi.

Delhi and NCR region has been witnessing slightly pleasant conditions for quite some time now with both maximum and minimum temperatures settling below normal levels. However, the mercury levels are likely to increase during the weekend.

In fact, the temperatures started to rise from Tuesday, with the maximum temperature at the Safdarjung Observatory recorded at 37.6ºC, one degree above normal and minimum settling at 20.7ºC, normal for this part of the season.

Tuesday’s maximum temperature is three degrees more than that recorded on Monday when the maximum recorded was 34ºC. As per the forecast, the mercury is going to touch 39ºC after two days, just one notch below the 40ºC mark. There is also a possibility of a dust storm or a thunderstorm on Friday. On Wednesday, the mercury is likely to hover around 38ºC to 21ºC.

“A fresh western disturbance is approaching the northwest region and the wind pattern is likely to change in the coming days. Hot winds will be blowing from Rajasthan and will increase the mercury levels over the national capital and its adjoining areas,” said an official of the MeT department.

According to acuweather.com, a private weather forecasting agency, the heat will turn even more intense from Sunday into next week across northwestern India.

“Temperatures may approach 43ºC in the national capital region on the hottest days and should peak between 43ºC and 46ºC in the hottest locations across North-Central and Northwestern India,” it said.
