Fortify anti-trafficking unit, LG tells police

New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday directed the Delhi police to strengthen the anti-human trafficking unit (AHTU) infrastructure and resources with the latest technology. The LG also asked the police to analyse the statistics of untraced children and the cases in which they are still untraced should be thoroughly investigated.

The LG directed the Delhi police that crime branch and local police should develop intelligence and take action against organised gangs that force children or grownups into begging.

“Delhi police should also visit the families of children, included in ‘Pehchaan Scheme’ and ‘Operation Milap’ to develop a sense of security among the parents.

He further directed the  police that the statistics of untraced children should be analysed and the cases in which they are still untraced should be thoroughly investigated. The trend of the recovery of children including the places from where they are recovered should also be analysed,” a statement from LG house said.

The LG further advised Social Welfare Department to take proactive steps to discourage begging. The number of Beggar Homes should be enhanced and the facilities in such homes should be improved to make them lively. The Social Welfare department should also set up skill development centres in the home along with the de-addiction clinics.

The LG also directed the Home department to regularly review and coordinate the action taken on identified actionable points with all concerned departments, it added.  

The LG was informed about the various initiatives for combating human trafficking.
