New Delhi: Days after the special cell of the Delhi police shot dead four suspected criminals in Chhatarpur, it nabbed a 46-year-old man carrying 'one lakh reward on his head following a shootout in Greater Noida on Tuesday, an official said.
The nabbed accused, Kishan Pal, sustained bullet injuries in his legs during the gunfight, while his accomplice managed to flee, the police said.
In a joint operation by the special cell, southern range, team and the Uttar Pradesh police, Kishan Pal was nabbed after an exchange of fire near Paramount Apartments roundabout at Bisrakh in Greater Noida, deputy commissioner of police (Special Cell) P.S. Kushwah said.
The special cell team had been keeping a tab on Kishan Pal for the last four months and had learnt that he would commit a robbery along with an accomplice in the area.
Around 5.25 pm, when a car with Delhi registration number was spotted, the police surrounded the vehicle and asked Pal and his accomplice to surrender. Instead of surrendering, the duo fired upon the police personnel, who were saved by their bulletproof jackets, Mr Kushwah said, adding in the ensuing gunfight, Pal was injured in the leg while his accomplice fled.
"Eventually, Pal was overpowered and two sophisticated pistols and live cartridges were seized from him. He is undergoing treatment at a government hospital there," the DCP said.
A reward of Rs 1 lakh was declared by the Delhi Police on Pal's head. He, along with his accomplices, was involved in killing one Vijay Yadav in Hauz Qazi for pecuniary gain in 2007.
