The detective, identified as Saurabh Sahu, was instrumental in illegally procuring CDRs from his contacts in telecom companies, and forwarding them to the dozen-odd accused arrested by the crime branch in the CDR case.

New Delhi: The police arrested a woman and her lover for allegedly attempting to murder her husband after he came to know about their relationship, police said on Sunday.

Jahangir Alam (22), who had shot at and injured Shahid, and the victim’s wife, Farhana, a conspirator in the crime, were arrested on Saturday.

The incident took place on the intervening night of June 3 and 4. The accused, who were absconding, had decided to get married, the police said.

Initially, the aim of the crime was not clear, but after officials met the victim (husband), it was known that his wife had an affair with his neighbour, said R.S. Sagar, ADC (Outer). Alam had hired Shahid’s cab to go to Inderlok from Jahangir Puri, but midway, the accused asked him to stop to pick up a friend. When none turned up, Shahid insisted on returning. Soon they entered into an argument and the accused shot him. He managed to reach a hospital and the police was informed.

During interrogation, Alam said he knew Farhana for the past two years and they were in a relationship.

He said they had decided to get married after killing Shahid. The woman told him her husband suspected that they were in a relationship.
