Pregnant woman commits suicide, husband arrested

New Delhi: A 27-year-old pregnant woman allegedly committed suicide after hanging herself from a ceiling fan in Northwest Delhi’s Keshav Puram area. The police has arrested her husband over harrasment by her in-laws.

The deceased Parul Jain (27) was four months pregnant and was a resident of Tri Nagar. The deceased got married to Gaurav Jain (30) on December 13 last year. Gaurav runs a shoe shop in Jai Mata Market in Tri Nagar.

An information was received at 11:46 am on Sunday, following which staff rushed to the spot where the body of a woman was found hanging from the ceiling fan with the help of a saree at the second floor of a building in Tri Nagar area, a senior police officer said.

The police cut the saree and the body was sent to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital for the post-mortem, which was conducted on Monday, the police said, adding that no suicide not was recovered from near the body.

Hari Mohan (59), father of the deceased, said, “ my in-laws informed me around 11:50 am on Sunday that your daughter has committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan. When i reached there I came to know that the police had already taken the body to BJRM hospital,”

He further alleged that, there was no stool present in the room and the case is not of suicide, it is a clear murder.

In his complaint to the police, Hari Mohan said that his daughter was four months pregnant and Gaurav and his family members used to torture her, following which she took this step to end her life.
