IGI Airport: Pistol magazines found in airline cargo
Sources said that the said items were not declared in the declaration certificate submitted to the IndiGo Airlines cargo.
New Delhi: Around 31 magazines of .32 pistols were discovered from a consignment on Monday at the IGI Airport. Sources said that the said items were not declared in the declaration certificate submitted to the IndiGo Airlines cargo. The magazines were onboard flight 6E-656.
“According to a source, on Monday, at about 2.34 am during screening at cargo, 31 magazines of .32 bore were detected from the console consignment of a company based in Rangpuri. The said items were not declared in the declaration certificate submitted to IndiGo cargo as it was supposed to be sent to Indore by Indigo flight 6E-656 at 5.45 am. On enquiry, it was learnt that the said magazines were booked by an Aligarh based firm through DTDC (Door to Door Courier) to an arms dealer in Ujjain as a cargo booking. The agent has no permission/license from DGCA for arms transportation,” said the source.
The Airlines said that the consignment booked and scheduled to be shipped on IndiGo flight to Indore was rejected on grounds of violation. During the shipment X-ray screening, the security staff identified magazines in the consignment. “The airlines staff, along with the security staff, immediately alerted the authorities,” it said.
