New Delhi: Tragedy befell on two families in separate incidents when they lost their children in Maujpur and Wazirpur area on Tuesday morning. While a family lost their two-year-old daughter after she accidentally fell into a drain in Maujpur, the other bereaved family lost their two-year-old son, who drowned in a bucket while playing, in Wazirpur area.

In the first incident, just five days before her birthday, a two-year-old girl identified as Srishti, daughter of Anirudh Pratap Singh, met with a watery grave when she fell into a drain reportedly belonging to the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC). The deceased is survived by her father Anirudh, mother Aarti, and elder sister Garima.

On Tuesday, as usual, he left his house and came to the spot at about 7.30 am along with both his daughters. They went to the school where he dropped his elder daughter, who studies there. Meanwhile, Srishti was allegedly left unattended by the father as he became busy setting up his cart.

Police further said that Srishti, who was playing near the half-open drain, accidentally fell in it. The incident came to light when the locals raised an alarm and subsequently rushed to her rescue.

“The father was unaware about his daughter. When locals raised the alarm, he rushed to her rescue with them and brought her out. Seeing his daughter motionless, he rushed her to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead on arrival,” said police.

Locals said the police, reached the spot and carried out a probe. It is learnt the said drain wasn’t completely shut. A little space was left for cleaning purposes.
