UPSC aspirant killed 7-yr-old with muffler
Stuffed boy's body in suitcase; showed neighbours dead rats to explain stench.
New Delhi: The Delhi police arrested a 27-year-old UPSC aspirant for allegedly killing a seven-year-old boy over a month ago.
The accused, identified as Avdesh Shakya, had allegedly killed the boy on January 6 and stuffed the body in a suitcase in his rented house in Swaroop Nagar area, police said on Tuesday. It also recovered the decomposed body of the minor.
Avdesh had kidnapped and killed the minor boy as the former had an argument with the boy’s father. The accused had kept the body of the child wrapped in a plastic bag and stuffed it in a suitcase for the past one month. Deputy Commissioner of Police Aslam Khan said that the accused had helped the family of the boy in registering an FIR
During interrogation, Avdesh confessed to the crime and revealed that he was planning to dump the body somewhere following which he would have made a ransom call to the father of the deceased, said Mr Khan.
The victim’s father, Karan Singh, had lodged a missing complaint of his son, Ashish, on January 6 at Swaroop Nagar police station. Police said that the accused was Mr Singh’s tenant for the past three years.
“The accused had developed friendly relations with Karan and his family members. A few months ago, he shifted to another house in the same locality,” said a police officer.
The accused, during the course of interrogation, told the police that he used to visit Mr Singh’s house, but the latter started objecting to him meeting his son for some unknown reason.
“On January 6, Ashish came to Avdesh’s house where he told him that his father had asked him to stay away from him. At this, the accused became angry and smothered the minor with a muffler and stuffed his body in a suitcase,” added the officer.
The police further said that the accused, after allegedly committing the crime, continued visiting Mr Singh’s house. The acccused also accompanied the latter to the police station when he went to lodge a missing person’s complaint.
He also misled the neighbours when they asked him about the foul smell emanating from his house.
He reportedly told them that there were dead rats in the house. Since the area was under constant police presence after the complaint, Avdesh didn't find the opportunity to dump the body.
The police said that Avdesh, a native of western Uttar Pradesh, was preparing for the civil service exams. He told police that he had appeared thrice for the preliminary and twice in the mains of UPSC.
