Disguised sleuths rob businessman of Rs 4 lakh

New Delhi: A businessman was allegedly waylaid, attacked and later robbed by a gang of four men who disguised as sleuths from crime branch escaped with cash Rs 4 lakh on late Wednesday night.

The victim identified as Ram Kishore, owns a hardware showroom in Sadar Bazaar. The police said that the incident took place near Azad Market flyover on late Wednesday night, when the victim was heading home after closing down the showroom.

According to the complainant, Ram Kishore, a resident of Rana Pratap Bagh, he left for home on a scooter around 10.30 pm. As he crossed St. Stephen’s Hospital and reached Azad Market Flyover, two men standing at the flyover allegedly flagged him down. When Ram Kishore stopped the scooter and asked for a reason, the two claimed that they are from the crime branch and asked him to cooperate in getting his bag checked.

Realising something wrong, Mr. Kishore refused to get the bag checked, which infuriated the two men. By the time, the victim could call for help, a gang of four men travelling on two bikes came from behind and attacked Ram Kishore. In the melee, one of the assailants, stabbed Kishore with a knife and pushed him away from his scooter, said the complainant. The gang then fled from the spot with Ram Kishore’s scooter and the bag containing cash Rs 4 lakh.

The victim somehow managed to approach the jurisdictional police station and lodged a plaint in this connection. The Sabji Mandi police has taken up the case and visited the crime spot. A special team has been constituted to nab the offenders.
