Real estate investor kills himself
The deceased has been identified as Sumit Aggarwal, who use to invest in real estate properties.
New Delhi: A 36-year-old real estate investor shot himself with his licensed pistol in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka Sector 18 on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Sumit Aggarwal, who use to invest in real estate properties. He survived with his wife and a child at Majestic Apartments in Sector 18A of Dwarka.
The police said Aggarwal was under depression because he had suffered huge losses in his real estate business. It said he had invested heavily in real estate development project in Rajasthan. But due to a slowdown in real estate business allegedly because of demonetisation, Mr Aggarwal’s project was not picking up and it caused him huge monetary loss. He was in depression due to losses, the police said.
During preliminary investigation, his wife told the police that he was suffering from depression due to property loss. He was in another room when she heard a gun shot around at 1pm. When she rushed to the room he was lying in a pool of blood. Sumit had fired from his pistol by keeping it on his left side of the chest, said the police.
“A MLC was received at 1.52pm from Venkateshwara Hospital regarding one Sumit Aggarwal admitted in the hospital with gun shot injury on chest,” said Surender Kumar, DCP (southwest).
A senior police official said that the man had shot himself at his house when his wife and children were present at the residence.
“His heart was punctured from the gun shot and the bullet pierced out from the other side of his body. The police team has recovered an empty cartridge from the room,” added Mr Kumar.
The police said that no suicide note was recovered from the spot but deceased’s wife informed that Sumit was under depression after his investment in real estate incurred loss.
The inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPC was initiated and the body was sent for post-mortem. It will try to contact family members to get more details in the case .
