New Delhi: Delhi police on late Wednesday night arrested Manpreet Singh Chadha alias Monty Chadha, the son of late liquor baron Ponty Chadha, from the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in the national capital.

The arrest was made after the economic offense wing (EOW) filed an FIR in connection with a cheating and criminal breach of trust against Chadha and officials of his company Uppal-Chadha Hi-tech Developers Private Limited, amounting to Rs 100 crore.

According to additional commissioner of police (EOW) Suvashis Choudhary, Chadha was detained at the Delhi airport when he was leaving for Phuket on Wednesday night.

“Police had alerted the airport’s security staff and immigration officers and a look out circular (LOC) was issued,” said the additional CP.

According to the FIR filed in January last year, Chadha and his associates did not deliver a promised hi-tech township in Ghaziabad.

The projects — which were known as Rosewood Enclave, Sunny Wood Enclave, Lime Wood Enclave, and Chestwood Enclave — and a township with houses, villas, a golf course, helipads, an international school, college, and shopping malls were promised at the National Highway-24 in Ghaziabad.

The FIR stated that the company had never delivered the project and the buyers have been “suffering at the hands of the accused for the last 11 years.”
