DU faculty selection process under scanner
V-C reportedly rejected a candidate for position reserved for OBCs.
New Delhi: The selection process to appoint faculty members for a permanent vacancy has come under scrutiny at Delhi University. Vice chancellor Prof. Yogesh Tyagi reportedly rejected the name of an OBC candidate for a post reserved for OBC candidates.
This comes after the selection committee selected two general category candidates and one SC candidate to fill three out of four vacancies for positions of permanent assistant professors in the department of Financial Studies.
However, the last position was to be filled by an OBC candidate, which was “not found suitable” (NFS) by the Executive Council, chaired by the varsity VC. The DU teachers’ association (DUTA) has now decided to protest against the decision while demanding the EC to review the same and select the candidate with the highest marks.
According to an EC member, the VC and the selection committee didn’t involve EC members in the decision making.
“Recommendations of the selection committee come for approval to the EC but the NFS decision in the OBC category was never brought to the EC. How can it be EC’s decision, when EC members weren’t involved? We had asked for score cards of candidates, minimum and maximum required marks set for approval in this category, nothing was revealed to us,” he added.
