Delhi: Five arrested for daring train robbery
The police has arrested a five-member gang in this connection.
New Delhi: The Delhi railway police cracked the dacoity-cum-assault case which took place in Farakka Express near Seelampur in July. The police has arrested a five-member gang in this connection. According to the railway police officials, the gang had struck at the Farakka Express on the intervening night of July 26 and July 27 near Old Bridge in Seelampur. They even attacked eight passengers with knives and other blunt objects.
Earlier, two gang members, who are residents of Old Seelampur and Karawal Nagar respectively, were arrested on August 1. On August 2, they were produced before the court and based on their instance the Delhi railway police arrested the other gang members. Police has also recovered cash amounting to Rs 10,000 from the arrested.
It has identified the arrested as Sultan, Dilshad, Danish, Bilauta, and Shahrukh. According to a senior police official, the gang managed to get inside the train when it stopped at Old Seelampur. As the train waited for the clearance signal, the armed dacoits entered coach S9 and threatened passengers at knifepoint to part with their valuables.
When they resisted the robbery bid, the dacoits charged an attack with knives and iron rods on eight passengers including two women passengers and decamped with the booty. The incident came to light when the injured informed the railway police. The train had to be stopped at Ghaziabad railway station from where the injured were moved to a nearby hospital for first aid.
