Traffic cops create green lane to save jawan's life

New Delhi: In a bid to save the life a serving 35-year-old soldier of 101 Engineering Regiment, the Delhi traffic police on Monday created a six-kilometer Special Green Corridor.

The distance was covered in just 6 minutes, which would have taken more than 30 minutes in a regular course. The patient was suffering from dilated Cardio Myopathy and was waiting for a donor in R.R. Hospital since July 12. On Monday, a patient was declared brain dead at PGI, Chandigarh. The heart of the donor was brought to Delhi through a special Air Force Dornier jet aircraft.

In a well planned and coordinated move by traffic inspectors of Delhi Cantt. area and Palam airport, a green corridor was provided on a route of 6 km to take the organ from the technical area Air Force Station, Pal-am to R.R. Hospital, Delhi Cantt. “A heart needs to be successfully replanted into the recipient within four hours of its retrieval from the donor. In the present case, the heart was retri-eved at PGI Chandigarh, at 10 am and was into the operation theatre of R.R. Hospital, Delhi at 11.15 am,” said a senior traffic police official.
