Registration for DU admissions till June 22: Delhi HC

This step may extend the date of first cut-off list later than scheduled, as DU is likely to announce the date for cut-off on Saturday.

Delhi University's admission committee is yet to decide on the agency that will conduct the entrance exams for admission to various courses in the varsity, leading to a delay in the start of the process.

NEW DELHI: Delhi University will extend the last date of online registration for admission to undergraduate courses to June 22 from June 14. following the Delhi high court order on Friday. The court has asked the DU and University Grants Commission (UGC) to extend the date of registration. This step may extend the date of first cut-off list later than scheduled, as DU is likely to announce the date for cut-off on Saturday.

A bench of Justice Anu Malhotra and Talwant Singh extended the deadline for students to apply for the undergraduate courses in DU. The changes made by the varsity in the Best four criteria of UG courses for BA (Hons) in Economics, in which Mathematics has to be part of aggregate of which will be considered for admission. Similarly, the criteria mandating that a student should have 50 per cent or more marks in Mathematics/Business Mathematics with an aggregate of 60 per cent with number of new conditionalities attached.

This year the cut-offs are anticipated to be very high from previous years. In 2018 in the first list the highest cut-off went to 98.75 per cent for BA (Programme) in Lady Shri Ram College, 98.50 per cent for BA (Hons.) Economics in Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), 98 per cent in BA (Hons.) English in Hindu College, 98.50 per cent for BA (Hons.) Journalism in Delhi College of Arts and Commerce (DCAC).

This year, the applicants are applying for 62,000 seats with a 10 per cent increase in seats for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category, with a rise of 6,000 seats. More than 3.4 lakh students have registered for UG courses in DU. Out of these more than 8,000 candidates from the EWS category have registered. However, a lot of students are still confused about the procedure to get an EWS quota certificate.
