Delhi BJP man held for MBBS seat fraud
He promised an MBBS seat by July 2016 but asked for more money, as he needed to bribe officials in the health ministry, said the police.
New Delhi: A Delhi BJP member was booked for duping a man of Rs 20 lakh on the pretext of securing an MBBS seat in a government college using his “clout” he carries in the BJP and “closeness” with cabinet ministers.
The New Delhi district police have registered a case in this regard at the North Avenue police station on Thursday.
The complainant, Yogendra Nath Rathi, a resident of Shakur Basti, approached Ghanshyam Rana, president of Himanchal Prakoshth, BJP Delhi Pradesh, for admission of his nephew in an MBBS course in May 2015. He knew Mr Rana through his brother-in-law and during earlier meetings Mr Rana had promised to get any work done by using his political clout.
The man had visited Mr Rana’s office in Pant Marg where he showed his photographs on the wall with several prominent leaders of BJP. Sitting in his office Mr Rana promised that he would get the latter’s son admission preferably in a government college and told the man to arrange Rs 50 lakh for the admission.
Mr Rana promised that a MBBS seat for his nephew would be secured by July 2016. but asked for more money, as he needed to bribe officials in the health ministry.
In July 2016, he visited the office of Mr Rana along with his brother-in-law where he threatened them with dire consequences if they dared to visit his office again.
“We have registered a FIR under IPC section 420 (cheating) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) at North Avenue police station. The case is under investigation,” said R P Meena (ADCP).
