Rajnath Singh lauds police for arrest of Indian Mujahideen operative

NEW DELHI: Lauding the Delhi police for the arrest of Indian Mujahideen operative Ariz Khan, Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said the force was capable of meeting the highest level of challenges.

Speaking at the Raising Day Parade of the Delhi police, the Union minister asked the force to create an atmosphere of security in the city so that the people feel safe.

“The arrest of Junaid (alias Ariz Khan), who was giving security agencies the slip for a decade, by the Delhi Police can not be praised enough. Also, the security arrangements made by it during the Asean summit proves that Delhi Police is capable of handling any kind of challenge,” Mr Singh said while addressing the 71st Raising Day Parade of Delhi Police.

Mr Singh also announced a contribution of Rs 5 crore by the Union home ministry towards the Delhi Police Martyrs Fund.

Generally, the Delhi police personnel fund the corpus by contributing a day’s salary once a year.

He also lauded the force’s community policing and intelligent traffic management system initiatives. The minister said since forensics are crucial in crime investigation, the government is adding more forensic laboratories in the national capital. Besides, he said the crime and criminal tracking network and systems (CCTNS) will soon become fully operational, giving the police forces an edge.

Noting as Delhi is the capital of the country, the Delhi police is looked up to by the entire nation, he said: “Therefore, people from across the country have a lot of expectations from the Delhi police. This requires Delhi Police to put extra effort and they need to be extra alert and cautious.

Mr Singh also presented medals to the Delhi police personnel. The best police station trophy was given to the SHO of Punjabi Bagh. Delhi police commissioner Amulya Patnaik underlined the challenges before the force while highlighting the drop in crime graph of the city.
