AAP, BJP fight has stalled civic work: Ajay Maken
Maken said that these committees consists of three categories, statutory committee, special committee and ad hoc committee.
New Delhi: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken said on Friday that due to the ongoing fight between the AAP government in Delhi and the BJP-ruled civic bodies , the functioning of all the municipal corporations has come to a standstill in the city.
He said that the ongoing fight has stalled the formation of nearly 30 committees in the three MCDs. He said the people of Delhi were suffering due to the ongoing fight as for the first time in the history of the MCD, no standing committee meeting has been convened even as the MCD results were declared nearly two months ago.
Mr. Maken said that these committees consists of three categories, statutory committee, special committee and ad hoc committee.
He said the standing committee, education committee and rural area committee are statutory committees, the ad hoc committees constitutes anti-flood, anti-malaria and women’s welfare, while the special committee consists of works, appointments, medical relief and public health. “In the absence of the anti-malaria and anti-flood committees, the people of Delhi face the threat of diseases like dengue, as the monsoon days are almost at the doorstep.”
Addressing the media, Mr. Maken said almost two months have passed since the MCD election results were announced. So far no committee has been formed as the AAP wants the Aldermen to be appointed before holding elections to various committees because the Aldermen holds voting rights to constitute the ward committees. The BJP-ruled MCDs want the committees to be formed before the appointment of the Aldermen.
Mr Maken said that Aldermen should be appointed without further delay and the L-G can play the role of a referee by bringing both the BJP and the AAP to sort out the matter. He said the Congress councillors will raise the issue in the MCD meeting.
