Two more deaths in city, 5,220 cases reported

New Delhi: Two more deaths due to dengue were reported in the national capital, taking the toll due to the vector-borne disease to three.

While one of the victims was a woman hailing from Manipur, who had come to Delhi for treatment, the other woman was a resident of Northeast Delhi.

Rhoda Daimai, who was living in South Delhi’s Sarita Vihar, died on August 27 of septicaemia and other ensuing complications while 49-year-old Meena Devi, hailing from Bihar, died of dengue shock syndrome on September 2, according to a municipal report released on Monday.

The civic bodies said that Daimai was a resident of a village in Manipur and had come to Delhi seeking treatment while Meena lived in Karawal Nagar in Northeast Delhi. While Meena died at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH), Rhoda succumbed at the Holy Family Hospital.

Earlier, in the first dengue death reported by the MCDs this year, a 12-year-old boy had succumbed to the disease. The hospitals, however, have reported more deaths due to the vector-borne disease but those remain unaccounted for in the municipal data.

The total number of dengue cases recorded till October 14 has gone up to 5,220. Of these, 2,564 were residents of Delhi, while the rest were from other states. Of the 2,564 Delhi cases, 757 were reported this month, the report said.

The number of malaria and chikungunya cases recorded in the city till now at 1,062 and 683 respectively, the report by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), which tabulates data for the entire city, said.

According to the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), mosquito breeding has been reported from 4,78,978 households.
