New Delhi: Due to demonetisation of higher denomination currency notes, outstation students studying in the national capital are facing problems in terms of getting through basic needs like transportation and food.
Priyanka Prakash, a BJMC student who puts up in a PG at Hauz Khas, was lucky enough to pay her rent before this decision came up but faces hardship when she has to walk long distances as she can’t pay for autos. “Since I do not stay with my parents, I cannot even get money from the bank because of which I have to cut out on everything. But yes, thanks to technology, as Paytm is very helpful in paying for some of the stuff. However, my friends have been transferring their rent to the owners account. Also, we visit places where they have debit card facility,” she said.
With no money to commute daily from Dwarka to Moolchand, working student Meghna Goswami feels helpless as she has no other financial support to manage her travel expenses. “Rickshaw wala bhaiya will not accept card, how am I supposed to go till metro station? Either I take a cab, but how many times! No nearby ATM is working and I have no other financial support since I live alone. So I am helpless! Tomorrow I might use all coins that I have saved, but if the situation remaines the same, what will I do” expressed the LSR student. “Me and my friends are suffering as we don’t have time to stand in queues of ATMs,” added Shivangi Chakraborty, who is from Kolkata.
