Demand for observors at mosques splits BJP
A party leader said that the letter was sent without any discussion at proper platform and approval of competent authority.
New Delhi: Differences have cropped up in Delhi BJP which has urged the chief electoral officer (CEO) to appoint special observers at the mosques to prevent their misuse for political gains during the Lok Sabha polls. Even the central leadership also raised objection over the content of the letter.
A senior party functionary told this newspaper that the letter was sent even without the knowledge of general secretary (organisation) Siddarthan.
A section of the party claimed that the whole development was adventurism of the convenor of Delhi BJP’s legal department, Neeraj and few other office bearers.
In a letter written to the CEO (Delhi), Mr Neeraj had requested the appointment of special observers at the mosques, quoting recent attempts to polarise votes in the run up to the polls, by some politicians.
A party leader said that the letter was sent without any discussion at proper platform and approval of competent authority.
It is learnt that the adventurism was done without the knowledge of Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari and Siddarthan and came as a surprise to both of them.
Attempt to get Mr Tiwari’s reaction turned futile and Mr Neeraj refused to comment.
