New Delhi: Union minister Vijay Goel has requested lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal to intervene and take measures to restore the beauty of Chandni Chowk.

Mr Goel wrote to Mr Baijal regarding the degrading situation in Chandni Chowk and urged the L-G to develop the area on the lines of the Smart City project under the urban development, housing and urban poverty alleviation ministry. Mr Goel, who has resented Chandni Chowk in the Lok Sabha, in his letter to Mr Baijal, stated that the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Board had many suggestions pertaining to the area’s development and restoration and these must be implemented.

He said that he met deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia last year to discuss these issues but nothing had been done to implement the suggestions for the betterment of the area. Even the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Board failed to work in this regard.
