Arvind Kejriwal announces Rs 10L aid to 6-year-old rape victim

The Delhi government will provide financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh and legal help to the victim.

NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday met the six-year-old girl who was brutally raped by a vagabond in Delhi’s Janakpuri area on Monday. The Delhi government will provide financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh and legal help to the victim.

Doctors at the Safdarjung Hospital briefed Mr Kejriwal about the condition of the girl after which he tweeted: “I am horrified after seeing the condition of six year-old girl child in hospital. Met her father. What society do we live in? Delhi govt will provide Rs 10 lakh financial assistance & best legal help. We will make best efforts so that accused gets exemplary punishment’.

Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal also accompanied Mr Kejriwal to the hospital to meet the six-year-old girl.

On Tuesday, DCW had sent notices to the police taking cognisance of media reports on the case.

Ms Maliwal said It has been reported that a six-year-old girl was kidnapped while she was sleeping with her family on a footpath.

The child was raped and thrown in a deserted place where she was found in a pool of blood.
