New Delhi: The top leadership of Delhi BJP took strong exception to the way its civic leadership is functioning and taking decisions, particularly regarding granting extension to officers posted in municipal corporations on deputation without consulting senior party leaders.

A party insider said the party was now contemplating ways and means to rein in those councillors on key positions, who are allegedly defying the directions of the leadership and not informing them about the developments.

Party sources said that in a recent development, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation has granted extension to Atik Ahmed presently posted as deputy commissioner (Shahdara South Zone) without informing the state leadership.

“It came to the notice of party leadership after extension was given to him. While the state BJP president Manoj Tiwari had clearly told that no extension will be given to any officers who completed minimum three years. Mr Ahmed, a Madhya Pradesh cadre officer is on deputation since 2012," he added.

According to senior party functionary, similar decisions were also taken in other two BJP ruled corporations, South Delhi Municipal Corporation and North Delhi Municipal Corporation, more than two dozen cases were cleared. “EDMC’s mayor N. Bhagat told Mr Tiwari the decision to grant extension was taken by her, leader of house and senior member of the standing committee, in consultation with a few senior officials of the state unit,” a party insider said.

Mr Tiwari said the party has a policy that BJP will give transparent civic administration. “We have said no extension will given to  those who have completed their terms and we stand by it.”
