NSUI releases manifesto for Dusu polls

New Delhi: “Democracy and freedom on campus”, “Equal opportunity and affirmative action” and “Making DU affordable and accessible” will be the three main agendas of the Congress-affiliated students’ wing National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) for the upcoming Delhi University Students Union (Dusu) elections.

While releasing its manifesto on Thursday, the NSUI promised to ensure peace, security and freedom within Delhi University and also to make campus safe for women.

The manifesto focuses on the issues like discrimination, pending scholarships and fee rationalization across colleges.  It also stressed upon the implementation of   active grievance redressal cell, special nodal officers for North East students and revision of  diet rates for sports quota students.  Talking to reporters, NSUI President Fairoz Khan said, "NSUI wants to be a bridge and facilitator between the first year students and university administration. Our party wants to encourage exchange programmes between different colleges under Delhi University (DU).''

The Congress affiliated students wing   also stressed upon the need of building hostels by University administration so as to   provide affordable accommodation to outstation students. It also promised to   restart U-Special buses that were brought under the term of former NSUI DUSU committee members. 

After the NSUI launched its manifesto on August 17,  according to a DU source the RSS-affiliated students wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidayarthi Parishad (ABVP) will also start pre-campaigning from August18, Chattra Yuva Sangharash Samiti (CYSS), the students wing of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), will not be contesting the varsity elections this year too. However, it would be focusing on elections only at the college level. 

Similarly, the Left-also backed the AISA (All-India Students' Association) will be seen raising issues such as freedom of speech, seat cuts, and hostel.
