New Delhi: Two months after a JNU student Najeeb Ahmed went missing from the campus, the safety of Delhi’s campuses has come into the spotlight. The Asian Age visited four campuses in the city to check on the security situation and to answer the question that most parents are asking — Are Delhi’s campuses really safe for students?

We found that while certain campuses like Jamia Milia Islamia had a large number of vigilant security guards deployed at all entry points and CCTV cameras, others like the Delhi University campus being an open one does not have any surveillance cameras. However, there are security guards deployed outside individual college, who check identity cards before letting anyone enter. Jamia also had its own proctorial team, which is handled by veterans from the defence forces. They also have Jamia Bulls, who maintain campus discipline.

JNU, surprisingly, had just one CCTV camera in the administration block. There is a proposal to install more at the main gate. Ambedkar University at Kashmiri Gate, rather oddly, checks ID cards of all male students but female students are allowed to enter without any restriction.
