New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested a man for allegedly running a fake job racket through a call centre and duping more than 200 people on the pretext of providing jobs in a reputed company.
The cyber cell of northwest district received a complaint from the sales manager of the company alleging that they have received complaints from persons being duped on the pretext of providing jobs.
In the complaints received from victims from all over India, victims had alleged that some fake call centres are operating in the NCR, the police said.
They used to call the victims and ask them to come to their office for an interview telling them they had been selected for recruitment in the company.
The job aspirants were charged a fix amount as security fee and were given an offer letter. After that, they would stop answering the phones of the victims, they added.
During investigation, it was found that the alleged call centre was operating from a complex in Pitampura but it was found to be closed. On the basis of technical surveillance, the kingpin of the racket, Narender Kumar, was arrested.
Kumar used to work in a consultancy firm and for want of more money, he started cheating people on the pretext of providing jobs. He started his own fake consultancy firm in Pitampura, said Vijayanta Arya, Additional Deputy commissioner of police (Northwest).
He hired six telecallers and posted advertisements of his firm in newspapers and different job portals.
The aspirants used to respond to them by email and calling on the numbers provided by them, said the officer. The accused would use the fake name of Gaurav Kumar to contact the job-seekers. The telecallers would call the aspirants and then ask them to transfer money in the many bank accounts being operated by the accused in the name of Gaurav.
