Ajay Maken has not quit city chief post: Congress
Chacko said Mr Maken will resume work after returning to Delhi on September 22.
New Delhi: The Congress Tuesday dismissed as “rumours” reports that Ajay Maken has resigned as its Delhi unit chief, and said he has gone for a medical checkup abroad and continues holding the post.
Mr Maken has informed Congress president Rahul Gandhi and in-charge of the party’s Delhi unit, P.C. Chacko, about his trip, party leaders said.
“Maken has not resigned and will continue to be the Delhi Congress chief,” Mr Chacko told a news agency.
“He has left and has informed Congress president Rahul Gandhi and me about his medical checkup. He will return on September 22,” he said.
Mr Chacko said Mr Maken will resume work after returning to Delhi on September 22.
Later speaking to reporters, Delhi Congress chief spokes-person Sharmishtha Mukherjee said, “Resignation of Ajay Maken is completely a rumour. He is and will remain our president.”
Another leader Mukesh Sharma said Mr Maken would address a “mahapanchayat” of 365 villages against “illegal” sealing in South Delhi's Rangpuri on September 23. Mr Maken could not be contacted.
