FIR against city BJP chief Manoj Tiwari
BJP leader tried to break lock of sealed house in Gokalpur.
New Delhi: The Delhi police has registered a case against Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari for allegedly breaking the lock of a sealed house in the Gokalpur area.
The property in Northeast Delhi was sealed as it was being used as a “dairy facility” and allegedly being run in violation of the Delhi Master Plan, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) said.
On Tuesday, Mr Tiwari once again went to Gokalpur to break open the sealed house, which was resealed on Monday. The Delhi BJP president returned without breaking the seal after the civic body sought two days’ time to investigate and set right his concern that the house was illegally sealed.
According to a senior official, a case against Mr Tiwari was registered based on a complaint from the civic body under Section 188 of the IPC and relevant provisions of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act. The complaint was lodged by the EDMC on Monday, a day after Mr Tiwari allegedly broke the seal.
Unaffected by the FIR, Mr Tiwari reached the area once again on Tuesday to break the seal of the same property. The place was heavily cordoned off by the Delhi police. About 1,000 local residents and BJP workers also reached there. A high voltage drama ensued, which lasted about two hours.
Mr Tiwari said that the newly appointed deputy commissioner of the area sought two days’ time to enquire as to why only one house among several was sealed.
“If the authority fails to de-seal the property in two days, I will break the seal on the third day. We are against illegal sealing and the policy of pick and choose. If sealing action is to be taken, it should be against illegal construction on public land. It should start from Yamuna Bank,” Mr Tiwari added.
On Sunday, during his visit to Gokalpur, Mr Tiwari was informed by locals that only one house among several was sealed by the municipal corporation. He said he wanted to appeal to the Supreme Court and its monitoring committee to ensure that no such pick and choose action is taken in the name of the sealing drive.
