Delhiites say no to Chinese products
Khan Market, Delhi's premiere location was also flooded with festival shoppers.
New Delhi: Even as the markets were flooded with people doing last minute Diwali shopping on Wednesday, shopkeepers said that the glaring change that was noticed this year among shoppers was their refusal to purchase Chinese products.
“Why should we buy their products if they are going against us? I’m asking my friends and relatives too not to buy them,” Shanti Singh, a buyer in Lajpat Nagar market said.
“This happened last year also, but this time around there was an increase in the number of customers refusing to buy Chinese products,” said Ramesh Kumar of Lajpat Nagar market who deals in electrical products. “So we have already swapped the Chinese products with ‘desi’ ones though they are costlier,” he added.
Referring to the Doklam row and China’s support to Pakistan, another shopper said, “They support the country, which sends terrorists to India. I will not buy their products”.
Various markets in the capital were seen to be in a festive mood. In Chandni Chowk, buyers swarmed the market for purchasing dry fruits, clothes, and other festive goodies.
“We bought gifts for family and friends, but the biggest turnoff was the rush hour traffic we faced later. The administration should take necessary steps to solve this situation as it forces most of us to celebrate the festival in jams,” said Shantanu who was stuck at Kashmere Gate for over 90 minutes.
Khan Market, Delhi’s premiere location was also flooded with festival shoppers. “People want unique and imported products and that’s why they come here, so we have to get particular goods to satisfy their requirements,” said Anurag, a shop owner.
