LEDs replace streetlights in Rohini
Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari inaugurated the project from the ward of NDMC mayor Preety Agarwal.
New Delhi: In an ambitious move, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has started replacing over two lakhs conventional streetlights with energy efficient LED lights from Sector 18 in Rohini. Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari inaugurated the project from the ward of NDMC mayor Preety Agarwal.
After inaugurating the project, Mr Tiwari said that this project reflects the thought process of the BJP as it would not only save '50 crore annually on part of the NDMC, but also make the street lights energy efficient.
“Delivering maximum at minimum possible cost is the motto of the BJP-ruled NDMC. The funds thus saved would help the NDMC spend the same on other development works,” added Mr Tiwari.
According to Ms Agarwal, there are a total of 2.05 lakh streetlights out of which contract has been awarded for 1.15 lakh fixtures in two of the bigger zones — Rohini and Narela zones.
“Tenders have been received and scrutinised for 90 lakh units spread in remaining four zones, which are being finalised. “This will be a Diwali gift from the corporation to the citizens to lighten up their paths and lives,” Ms Agarwal said.
She expressed hope that the entire project would be completed well before the scheduled time. The agency awarded with the job would ensure minimum 64.4 per cent of energy efficiency. Out of the funds saved, the corporation would claim revenue made on account of 79 per cent or actual of the minimum guaranteed energy saving, whichever is higher.
The remaining 21 per cent revenue worth '14 crore annually would go to the corporation for a period of seven years. “The NDMC had fixed world class specifications for the product to ensure quality. The manufacturer designed the product to meet our specifications, including a minimum life span of seven years. The manufacturer took 2.5 months to develop the product. The LEDs conform to the world standards,” said deputy mayor Vijay Bhagat.
