2 gold polishers' cheat old woman of 4 bangles

A case has been filed against the two unidentified accused and matter is being investigated.

New Delhi: Thieves posing as gold polishers cheated an 84-year-old woman into parting with all her gold. The incident was reported at Safdarjung Enclave area.  
The old woman said that her four gold bangles with an approximate weight of 65 to 70 gms were taken away by them.

In her written complaint to the Delhi police, Urmila Gupta said, “On December 12, after my grandson left for office at around 9am, at around 11:30 am the bell rang and I opened the door and I saw two middle-aged men, who claimed to sell a washing powder to clean and polish copper utensils.”

She continued that the two men entered the house and cleaned the copper utensils. They then said that they would also polish the gold bangles I was wearing.”

“I live along with my grandson in a rented accommodation in Safdarjung Enclave,” Ms Gupta said.

“The duo then applied powder on my gold bangles and asked me to bring an empty utensil. I brought the utensil in which they poured some hot water and powder. They then asked me to put the utensil an the gas stove so that the bangles would become polished. The two left immediately and I later realised that the gold bangles were not in the utensil,” Ms Gupta told the police.

Continuing, she said, “After the incident, I called up my grandson, who upon reaching home called up the police to register a complaint.”

A case has been filed against the two unidentified accused and matter is being investigated.

“We have received the CCTV footage of the area  and are examining the footage to trace the accused,” said a police official on the condition of anonymity.
