NEW DELHI: Despite Rs 15,000 crore being spent annually on education, level of education in Delhi’s government schools is falling, alleged Vijender Gupta, BJP MLA and leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly.

Only 57 regular Urdu teachers for 1028 posts and 112 regular Punjabi teachers for 1023 posts are available, Mr Gupta said, adding 780 out of 1100 government schools do not have even principals.

The true picture of Kejriwal government, which makes big claims for promoting minorities, is quite to the contrary. The facts revealed by deputy CM Manish Sisodia, in a written reply to a question from Leader of Opposition, is an eye-opener.

He said that out of 61,168 posts of teachers sanctioned for government schools, only 34,323 posts are filled by regular teachers.

Of the remaining, approximately 27,000 posts, guest teachers are posted on 21,271 posts and the posts of about 5,300 teachers are lying vacant. Of the approximately 1100 government schools, 780 schools do not have even principals.

Students of these schools have started turning towards private schools which have become shops and do not miss any opportunity to exploit their parents, Mr Gupta added.
