Police scramble to repair CCTVs

New Delhi: Ahead of the International Yoga Day (IYD), the Delhi police has pulled its socks to provide maximum security as over 3,000 CCTV cameras, installed at various intersections and market places, have reportedly been found non-functional across the city. The issue was recently raised at a high level meeting.

A police source said that the district DCPs have reportedly been asked to repair the dysfunctional cameras by the top brass officials. The source said that earlier, all the station house officials (SHO) were asked by the senior police officials to prepare a list of the CCTV cameras installed at their concerned areas. “The SHOs were asked to conduct a security audit of the hotels and cinema halls of their respective areas. The SHOs were also asked to meet the members of eyes and ears scheme to note their feedback. Following the orders, we prepared a list and were shocked to learn that more than 3,000 CCTV cameras installed at various places across the national capital, where events will be held on International Yoga Day, were not functioning. This matter was discussed with the senior police officials and it was decided that the dysfunctional CCTV cameras will be repaired as soon as possible,” the source said.

The source added that the Delhi police was also asked to tie-up with the police officials from the border districts of UP and Haryana.

On International Yoga Day, a numbers of events are being held at various places including shopping malls, park, markets, and other places where any untoward incidents can take place.

“To avoid any mishap during the events, we have decided to beef up security,” the source added.
