Manish Sisodia appointed Punjab in-charge
MLA Harpal Cheema too expressed exuberance at Sisodia's appointment.
New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday appointed deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia as the in-charge of its the party’s unit.
The post has been lying vacant since AAP leader Sanjay Singh resigned as Punjab in-charge in May following its dismal show in Delhi civic elections, where the party won only 48 out of 270 wards amid a BJP sweep.
The party tweeted that “The Political Affairs Committee at a meeting appointed senior party leader and deputy CM Manish Sisodia as prabhari (in-charge) of Punjab.”
Mr Sisodia’s task, however, is cut out. After the recent drubbing in the civuic polls where it could not win any seats in Jalandhar, Amritsar and Patiala, the onus of rejuvenating the Punjab cadre will be on him.
Despite beginning on a spirited note this year, winning 20 seats in the Punjab Assembly elections, the Arvind Kejriwal-led party has failed to up the ante in a state, which has been its best bet after Delhi.
“Every volunteer and leader of the team @AAPPunjab is looking forward to the new beginning with enthusiasm & hope!” the AAP Punjab unit tweeted.
MLA Harpal Cheema too expressed exuberance at Mr Sisodia’s appointment. “It would be a pleasure working with him for the benefit Punjab and it’s people,” he said.
