After BJP, now Cong HQ will shift to DDU Marg

The new party office will be called Indira Gandhi Bhavan. Built on a modest two-acre plot, the building will have a library.

New Delhi: After the BJP, the Congress is all set to move its iconic headquarters from 24, Akbar Road to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg.

Since the spilt in the Congress in 1978, the party has been operating from 24, Akbar Road.

The new Congress office will be called Indira Gandhi Bhavan. Built on a modest two-acre plot, the six-storeyed building, besides having underground parking facilities,  will also have a library, an auditorium and conference rooms with teleconferencing facilities.

 Close-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) will also be in place. It is expected to be inaugurated on the birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in November this year.

As per the deadline given by the Union Ministry of urban development, the Congress has to vacate three of its offices by October this year.

These include its headquarters on 24, Akbar Road, Seva Dal headquarters on 26, Akbar Road and Indian Youth Congress office on 5, Raisina Road.

Congress insiders claim that the new construction at the 9, Kotla Road office will be completed by end of October.

Structure of the six-story building is now complete and interiors have to done that should take abut six to eight months.

Interestingly, after the Congress shofts its office, all three major party offices of BJP, Congress, and AAP will be within a kilometre’s distance.
