New Delhi: In an alleged case of custodial torture, a woman has alleged that the police thrashed her husband brutally in Shahabad Dairy police station after the family did not pay Rs 5 lakh bribe to the cops.

The complainant, identified as Meenakshi, Kumar’s wife, accused that the police for implicated her husband in a false case and torturing him. She said the police assaulted her husband Naveen Kumar alias Monu in Shahabad Dairy police station after the family refused to pay bribe of Rs 5 lakh as asked by the cops.

She said it all began when Kumar’s friend Surya was taken into police custody earlier this month. Ms Meenakshi said Kumar used to visit the Shahabad Dairy police station to meet Surya. “On April 6, some policemen came to our house at around 10.15 am and arrested him.”

She added that the entire act was recorded in the CCTV camera installed outside their house.

She claimed that the police showed that Kumar was arrested from Rithala Metro station at 7.15 am on April 6 and was kept at the Metro Vihar police station, Shahabad Dairy. “No one was allowed to meet him,” she said.

“While he was in police custody, two to three cops came to our house and made us talk to someone over phone. The person on the other side demanded Rs 5 lakh from us and toned down his demand to Rs 3 lakh,” she said.

She claimed, “While we were leaving the police station, we heard Kumar’s shrieks. When his brother Sunil Kumar and maternal uncle Naveen complained to the PCR, some police officers came in a PCR van”.

He was admitted to Maharshi Balmiki Hospital where his medical exam was conducted. “As per the report, the injuries on his body were shown to be two days old. In the night, a case was filed under Arms Act a pistol was recovered from him when he was arrested.”

Kumar was produced before Rohini court. When he broke down before the judge, he ordered a fresh medical exam at the Sanjay Gandhi hospital. The new MLC was different from the earlier one.

His family said while he was in police remand, chowki in-charge P. Grewal, IO P. Tomar and Head Constable Krishna threatened him with implicating him in more cases under the Arms Act if he took any legal action against them.  He got bail on Monday. and returned home.

Meenakshi has now written to senior police officials seeking justice. She has alleged that the police connived with the doctors at the Maharshi Balmiki Hospital to get false MLC. The family has demanded that the police officials named in the complaint be dismissed and brought to justice while the licences of the doctors who colluded with these officials are cancelled.
