Mentally-ill woman chops off baby's head
Her 2 girls were at their grandfather's home during incident.
New Delhi: In a cold-blooded murder case, a woman allegedly chopped off her eight-month-old son’s head and tried to take out his heart in Outer Delhi’s Aman Vihar area.
The woman is said to be mentally unstable. The incident took place on late Thursday night, when the baby boy was with his mother. His two sisters, aged seven and two, were at their grandfather’s residence. The woman has been admitted to a hospital.
The police said that the mother allegedly slit the infant’s throat and smashed his head with a vessel. The accused, Sarika, is mentally disturbed and was alone with her son Chirag when the alleged crime was committed. Her husband, Hari Shankar, is a vendor at the weekly markets.
Hari Shankar told the police that he usually returned home by midnight. However, he returned at about 1.30 am on Thursday. After repeated knocks when Sarika opened the door, he saw his child’s head lying on the floor while the body was on the bed. His abdomen was also left cut open. Hari Shankar immediately alerted the police control room, who then rushed to the spot.
He added that when Sarika had supposedly killed his two-month-old son around four years ago, she was taken to Lady Hardinge Hospital. Little did he know then that his second son would meet the same fate. He added that Sarika has never harmed their two daughters. But as they are scared of their mother, the two lived with their grandfather, he told the police.
According to police, Sarika is admitted at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital considering her mental condition.
“Whether the accused is mentally unstable or not is being verified. Also, the charges levelled upon her for killing her first son is also under investigation,” said a police officer.
A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered at the Aman Vihar police station and an investigation is underway.
