New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested six people accused of armed robbery of under-construction power grids in the Dwarka area of southwest Delhi and decamping with electrical wires and other hardware worth lakhs of rupees.

The inter-border gangs investigation squad of the Crime Branch arrested one of the accused, Sapan Dass, on the intervening night of July 10-11 from the Hauz Khas area here. Thereafter, on the next day, the Crime Branch team arrested Mohsin and Shanu Malik from their respective shops in the INA Market area and recovered most of the robbed electrical wire and hardware, police said in a statement.

The remaining three accused — Bharat, Sandeep and Raju — were arrested on a production warrant as they had already been apprehended by Uttar Pradesh Police on June 24 after an encounter.

The Crime Branch team was constituted after four power grid sites of BSES Rajdhani at Dwarka were robbed, it said.

Investigation has reve-aled that the gang used to target various electricity boards and power grids in Delhi and the National Capital Region, police said.

The accused would allegedly sell the looted goods to scrap dealers Mohsin and Shanu Malik, who would further dispose of the bounty in Mayapuri and Tughlaqabad areas, the police statement said.
