Man on the run after rape, bid to kill 9-year-old
The initial probe revealed that the girl had gone to a hotel in Karol Bagh to buy food but didn't return home.
New Delhi: A nine-year-old girl is fighting for life after an unidentified man allegedly raped and strangled her in Karol Bagh. The accused attempted to kill the girl, fearing she might land him in jail. Presuming she had died, he fled the spot abandoning her.
The police has ordered a probe into the case after the victim’s parents approached the local police.
According to the police, the rape survivor resides in the Rajpura area of Karol Bagh and is survived by mother and two siblings. She is a Class 3 student of a government school.
The incident took place on Monday evening.
The initial investigation has revealed that the minor girl had gone to a nearby hotel in Karol Bagh to buy food and didn’t return home. She was allegedly raped by an unknown person there who is still on the run.
After committing crime, the accused also tried to strangle her. When she fell unconscious, the rapist fled the spot, presuming her dead. The incident came to light after the girl regained her consciousness and managed to reach home.
The police said that the girl had gone to buy food to the hotel where he was asked to wait. The girl then went to the nearby bench to lay down and it was when the unknown accused approached her. He took her to the staircase on the pretext of giving her candy and committed the crime.
According to doctors at the hospital where she was admitted for treatment, the girl had received injury marks on her face and neck when she tried to put up a fight. Based on the minor’s statement, the police has registered a case under POCSO Act 2012 and has launched a manhunt to nab the offender.
